Moving weekend!

We officially sold our KC house on Wednesday, and officially bought our new house on Thursday!

On Friday my mom, Jason's mom, and Grandma Camp all came to help us clean. And it's a good thing they did. The previous owners left us quite a mess. Piles of dog hair on the floor, gum stuck to the hardwood floors, food and candy ground into the carpets, collections of fingerprints and scuff marks on every door, mouse poop in the coat closet...we all came to the conclusion that the previous owners were allergic to cleaning in general. Nice people by the way. We have met them a couple of times and they are great. Just not cleaners.

On Saturday the moving company delivered all the stuff from our KC house. Josiah supervised. Actually I was the one checking off the boxes as they were carried in - a great job for a pregnant lady. I just sat around and gave orders. It was way better than all the cleaning I did the previous day.
Between Friday and Sunday we (with help that we are SO thankful for!!) got the whole house thoroughly vacuumed, wiped out the insides and outsides of all the kitchen cabinets, shampooed the carpets, mopped most of the hardwood floors, cleaned the bathroom, patched wall holes and removed wallpaper remnants and wiped down walls to prep for painting, painted all three bedrooms, touched up paint in other rooms, and a lot of other things I can't remember right now. The house looks infinitely better. And it is starting to feel like OUR house which is nice. It's getting harder to come back to the apartment to sleep.

This is Josiah's contribution to painting the baby's room today.
Luckily for Jason, there was a cold front that moved in last night. So today he got to figure out how his new outdoor wood furnace works. He loves it! And it really does a great job keeping the house toasty warm.
We have a couple of "pets" at our new house. On Friday Josiah was headed outside to play on the swing set, when I heard him say, "hey, some snakes!" as he walked out the door. Sure enough, I stepped out with him just in time to see two big black snakes crawling under our house. Luckily I was right there to tell him not to touch them, because apparently he has no natural fear of snakes. So hopefully they are taking care of the mice that I mentioned before who at one time had been hanging out in the coat closet.

We are having new carpet installed on Wed, and after that we'll be able to move our bedroom furniture to the bedrooms. Right now it is in the rec room, which is overflowing. We'll put the old carpet that we cleaned and pulled up into the rec room which currently just has rubberized mats over the concrete floor. Then we'll be able to start arranging that room to be the playroom/office/guest bedroom. The house is really coming together. More pics to come soon. For now I need to get some sleep! An exhausting but exciting weekend. We are very thankful for all the ways God has made everything work out so well and blessed us so much!
